A Northampton Valley Country Club Wedding

When Daryll told me about her theme for the wedding based around The Nightmare Before Christmas, I did a happy squeal of excitement. Their dream was to make the classic Tim Burton film come to life as a beautiful wedding. To top it off, she even wore a custom black wedding dress! Ahhh! Of course, I was pumped about this opportunity and was so happy when the couple chose me to be the one to capture it all. It’s fantastic whenever I can say I was part of something different and offbeat from the traditional ceremony. Daryll put her entire heart and being into making this wedding come together, which showed tremendously.

When I first met Daryll and Bob, we met at Arasapha Farms for their Engagement session last fall in 2021. It was a somewhat cloudy day with drizzle and rain. It started out looking bleak with the rain, but in the end, it all came together when it cleared up and brought in a beautiful rainbow during their session. Daryll was glowing and gorgeous, with Bob being the spontaneous comic relief to keep her in high spirits. They incorporated a cute nod to their wedding theme with matching shirts which I loved.

Now the day of their wedding was here, and it was time to put together a year’s worth of work. With the help of family and friends, the couple got ready in their hotel rooms at the Courtyard Mariott in Willow Grove, PA. Then, with everyone ready to go, both parties packed up and made their way to Northampton Valley Country Club, compliments of their secured ride by Zark Limo.

When the pair arrived, we immediately gathered them both and arranged for their first look. It went extremely! The weather, lighting, and everything were perfect for these two as they finally got to see each other in their entire ensemble. After a brief moment to drink it all in, we whisked off to do bridal party portraits around the golf course, then quickly made it back just in time for the ceremony to begin.

Despite everything going well, there was one snare we did not foresee: a missing officiant. I always tell my clients that there is no such thing as a perfectly executed wedding. There’s always bound to be something delayed, late, or changed on the fly because these things tend to happen. So it’s always best to be prepared and flexible to reduce unexpected stress. Of course, when I said that, I didn’t expect it to mean the officiant would be a complete no-show. Yikes! But like I said, it’s good to be flexible and ready for change on the fly. That’s why it was so cool to see their friend step in and take over the role of officiant. It was on his bucket list of things he wanted to do. Talk about the right time and right place!

With the wedding saved by their friend, the pair were married. Finally, the hard part was over, and now it was just dancing, partying, and lighting up the dancefloor. We, of course, did a few sunset portraits to get a few more of them together. But for the remainder of the evening, it was just partying—my favorite part.

I loved everything about this wedding, from the childhood nostalgia of Sally and Jack to the candlelight setup of the reception room. Their beautiful modern-themed wedding came together beautifully. Even with the sudden, unexpected changes that arose, at the end of the day, they fulfilled the intent of their day: getting married to the one they love.

Because this wedding was super awesome, it was featured in Philadelphia Magazine online! You can check out the article to read more about Daryll and Bob’s love story.
