Philly Maternity Session in the Heart of the City

Welcoming a new life into the world is always a beautiful moment, but for Raven and Debreea, this session was even more meaningful—it celebrated their 14-year love story, four years of marriage, and their long-awaited rainbow baby. As a Philly maternity photographer, I had the honor of capturing their journey in some of Philadelphia’s most iconic locations.

Set against the elegant architecture of the Rodin Museum, the lush greenery of Old City’s 18th Century Garden, and the timeless grandeur of the Merchant Exchange Building, this session perfectly embodied their chic, stylish love story—a modern-day fairytale in the city they call home.

Representation matters. When Raven and Debreea reached out, they mentioned how much they loved the queer couples I’ve photographed before and how important it was for them to see their love and growing family reflected in timeless, elegant images.

For this session, they wanted a “Sex and the City” aesthetic—sophisticated, romantic, and effortlessly stylish. Raven wore a flowing blue maternity gown that billowed with every step, while Debreea looked dapper in a tailored suit, bringing a perfect balance of femininity and masculinity into their shoot.

As a Black queer maternity photographer in Philadelphia, it was a joy to document their connection—the gentle hand on the belly, the shared laughter, and the quiet moments of anticipation as they await their son, who will be the first grandson in both of their families.

As a Philly maternity photographer specializing in queer and Black families, I understand the significance of capturing love stories that aren’t always represented in mainstream media. Every family deserves to see themselves in beautiful, meaningful imagery. Whether you’re expecting your first child, celebrating a rainbow baby, or simply cherishing the journey of parenthood, your story is worth telling.
